Jeremy Hooper is an NYC-based writer and humorist. Beginning his career in Broadway publicity, where he worked on the opening of Wicked, Sean Combs’ Broadway debut in A Raisin In the Sun, and since then many other Broadway and off-Broadway productions, Jeremy got the unique opportunity to work with all creators—actors, playwrights, producers—on the process of making art.
Jeremy’s national profile and strong social media presence (Twitter: @GoodAsYou; 23k followers on a verified account) exploded when he pivoted his career to LGBTQ/progressive politics. As a leading voice for his movement, Jeremy was named to The Advocate’s “40 Under 40,” was invited by famed writer Dan Savage to collaborate on a nationally syndicated Savage Love column, created special projects for both GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign, and worked to secure milestone LGBTQ rights victories at both the state and national level. As a political commentator, he also appeared on PBS, CNN, Fox News, and all over political radio to make his case for equality.
Throughout this work on weighty and even downright depressing topics, Jeremy’s work always maintained a strong undercurrent of wit. His highly celebrated LGBTQ rights blog, called Good As You (G-A-Y), would often be referred to as “The Gayly Show” in its early days, since taking the piss out of the right was his forte. (“Move over Jon Stewart . . . ” The Advocate, 9/13/05).
In recent years, Jeremy has pivoted away from politics and onto short-form humor, with great success. He has been featured in famed outlet McSweeney’s, where he contributed one of the most popular McSweeney’s pieces of the fall of 2020. Jeremy’s work has also appeared in The Weekly Humorist, Points In Case, and other top comedy outlets.
In addition to his writing for adults, Jeremy also writes picture books for future adults. A member of SCBWI, Jeremy has several witty works for young readers in production.
